AURELIA ROMAN BUST CANDLES

description // concept

The roman bust candle duo was a unique project for me, as I don't traditionally consider drawing the human form one of my top strengths. With this in mind, I began by studying the details of various roman statues. The small version premiered first, and due to its success in Anthropologie stores and online, the large SKU was later requested. Each version required at least 4 views with measurements of every fine detail for factories to produce them as intended. These candles capitalized on the "dark academia" trend that was hugely popular at the time.

I designed the Dickinson candles as part of Anthropologie's herbs and flowers collection for the Spring 2020 season. The sleek white glazed bodies feature rough, unglazed bases and simple, subtle graphic details. Scented with natural essential oils in the fragrances of soothing florals, I assigned attributes to each, and hand lettered all text details. My original floral paintings are below. The final detail was the dust cover–a cotton canvas material backed with a non-porous lining to ensure fragrance oils would not bleed through.

I named these candles after one of my favorite poets, Emily Dickinson.

CONSTANCE CANDLES

description // concept

The Constance Candles went through many iterations of design changes due to vendor capabilities and limitations. The original designs featured ceramic vessels with matte glazed artwork and metallic details. The final set of three candles included these glass vessels with mercury plated interiors and etched exteriors. Scents leaned toward woodsy pine fragrances, as these were designed for the holiday season.

The original packaging included a cardboard box with deckled edge window opening, and was fully recyclable and planet friendly.

These tassels feature speckled ceramic beads,
cotton rope and wooden beads. Each tassel package contains a mini spray bottle of fragrance intended to be sprayed onto the absorbent wooden beads. The tassels are meant to be placed on the knob of a ward-robe, a room door or dresser.
The packaging for this product posed an interesting set of issues, as the tassels are quite long and heavy, and the box needed to include the small bottle of fragrance with only recyclable materials. The end result is a lidless, thick-walled, cardboard box with screen printed artwork on kraft paper wrapping. The fragrance bottle tucks neatly into fitted slots. All pieces are interwoven with the box face so they stay
in place regardless of how the box is turned.

GOLDEN LIGHT TAPER CANDLES

description // concept

The Golden Light taper candles were an update to the previous season's
taper candle collection at Anthropologie, and acted as a main staple to the home fragrance category. The textured wax adds a sophisticated detail, while the colors appealed to the popular aesthetics of the fall season. The package design allows for a nearly full view of the tapers, without the need for acetate or other materials that are harmful to the planet. The fully recyclable boxes feature a watercolor texture cardstock with graphics and blind embossing.

DAISY MIMOSA CANDLE

description // concept

I designed the Daisy Mimosa candle as part of a floral collection for my small business, Grown Design Co. After throwing the initial shape on the pottery wheel, I created a plaster mold for slipcasting the vessel. The vessel body features a reactive glaze, while the ceramic lid was created using a solid glaze with a hollow center, allowing for resin casting and the encasement of a pressed fern leaf. After mixing fragrances, I arrived at the daisy mimosa scent and filled the vessels with a clean-burning wax blend.

POPPY GRAPHICS CANDLES

description // concept

This collection started as a set of three candles that were meant to appeal to different personality types identified as Anthropologie customer personas. It began as designs for the girl that prefers the less polished, crafted look. After
an executive change for the collection to appeal to Anthro's preppy but imperfect "townhouse" styled customer, they got a poppy and painterly floral twist. All versions of the personality candles featured quotes and the whimsical person-

ality types: the Pensive Poet, the Eternal Optimist, the Lifelong Friend and the Perpetual Gardener. The set of three small candles were designed as supple-mentary to the Townhouse version of the personality candles.
